Season of Creation & Harvest Sunday 2026

The Season of Creation (1st September - 4th October)
The Church marks 1st September to 4th October as the SEASON OF CREATION, a time for Christians to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During these days we join our sisters and brothers from different churches around the world in prayer and action for our common home.
2026 Theme: Living Water
The theme for the Season of Creation in 2026 is "Living Water". It's inspired by a passage of the Bible (Ezekiel 47:1-12) in which the prophet Ezekiel had a vision of God's life-giving water flowing from the temple of God. The river grows deeper and deeper, restoring barren land and sustaining flourishing ecosystems.

The vision prompts human responsibility to care for creation: recognising ecological damage, embracing interconnectedness between people and planet. As at baptism, we are invited to immerse ourselves in God's life-giving water, and actively work for the renewal of creation so that environmental healing and human well-being may flourish together.

Harvest Sunday collection for Carecent (27th September)
As the fruits of the earth are gathered at Harvest time (late summer/early autumn), Christians give thanks to God and share what we have with those in need.

Our Lady's expresses thanks to God and solidarity with the poor by collecting for a local charity, Carecent.

Carecent is a breakfast centre in York for all homeless, unemployed or otherwise socially excluded members of our community, providing food, clothing and friendship in a friendly and non-judgemental environment. Carecent is an ecumenical project based at Central Methodist Church. In addition to offering breakfast 6 days a week, Carecent volunteers offer toiletries, clothing, fellowship, support and advice to their clients. Carecent relies entirely on donations, and gifts are gratefully received.
As in previous years, members of our parish are invited to bring along donations to add to the offertory collection at Mass at Our Lady's on Harvest Sunday, 27th September. Please do not bring items earlier than this, as we don't have space and don't want donations confused with those for our school's foodbank.
