York Carmelite Spirituality Group

Picture
As well as our own Parish Groups, the amenities of our Parish are used by other community groups. These groups are not organised by the Parish, but we offer them the use of our facilities as a contribution to local society. At present the groups using our facilities on a regular basis includes:

York Carmelite Spirituality Group. Carmelite spirituality is the way that those attracted to the Carmelite Order live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Carmelite spirituality places particular emphasis upon prayer (especially pondering God's Word in Scripture), building community, and being of service to God's people. Carmelite spirituality is informed and nourished by the lives and writings of Carmelite saints, and the Order's special devotion to Our Lady and the Prophet Elijah.

York has a number of Carmelite communities, and Our Lady's Parish is entrusted to the pastoral care of the Carmelite Order. York Carmelite Spirituality Group brings together these different expressions of 'Carmel' - friars, enclosed nuns, active sisters, and lay people - to share together the rich heritage of the Order's vision of life.

York Carmelite Spirituality Group meets at Our Lady's, Acomb, normally on the second Saturday of each month (except in January and August).
