2025/6 First Holy Communion Preparation Programme

Picture
We welcome applications for children who live in the Parish of Our Lady in Acomb, York, or who worship regularly at Our Lady's Church. It does not matter which school the child attends. Children at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School who are not members of Our Lady's Parish and who do not worship regularly at Our Lady's should contact their own parish.

The next preparation programme for First Holy Communion will begin in November 2025, finishing with the celebration of First Holy Communion in June 2026.

The preparation programme lasts for 8 months with a total 12 sessions plus a number of special Masses. Prior to the children's programme, there will be a meeting for parents/guardians where you can ask any questions and complete the paperwork. This must be done by someone with legal responsibility for the child, not any other relative, friend or sibling.

The children's preparation will take place on Sundays in the Fr. Kelly Room and church immediately following the 9.30am Mass (from 10.45am - 11.30am).

If you would like your child to make their First Holy Communion, and you are prepared to support them through the programme, please fill in the details on the application form. If you have more than one child, please complete a separate form for each child.

To be included in this cohort, please complete the form by midday on Sunday 26th October 2025 at the latest.

The First Holy Communion programme helps form faith and friendships.
Children normally celebrate their First Holy Communion after the age of 7 (School Year 3) but there is NO upper age limit. Traditionally at Our Lady's Parish this takes place near the beautiful Feast of The Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) in June.

The Eucharist (also known as Mass or Holy Communion) is the Sacrament celebrated most regularly in our parish, nourishing us with the Body and Blood of Jesus to go out and serve him in our neighbours.
