Music
Our musical selection blends both traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs. We mostly use the Laudate hymn book. We are always keen to welcome new musicians, whether experienced or not. You can get involved in a number of ways...
Music group
The music group leads sung worship at Our Lady's approximately one Sunday morning Mass a month, and at significant occasions. The group currently consists of a selection of: keyboard; guitar; violin; clarinet; percussion; flute; tin whistle; singers. These and any other instrument are welcome. The group holds a monthly rehearsal at one of the member's home. Some members are also involved in providing music for the First Holy Communion Programme.

Psalm cantors
Cantors are solo singers who lead the congregation in singing the psalm, normally accompanied by the organ or music group. We do not currently have a parish choir, but are keen to welcome singers as cantors or members of the Music Group.
Organists
We currently have half a dozen people on the rota to play the organ at either Our Lady's or St. Joseph's. You do not need to be a professional organist to play the organ at Our Lady's; if you can play the piano, then the organ can adjust so that you do not have to use the foot pedals to obtain the deep bass sounds.
Music Planning Group
The Music Planning Group meets each month to organise music according to the needs of the season and liturgical calendar. The Group selects appropriate hymns, Mass settings, and other music for all our church services, and to roster the musicians and cantors for each service.
All are welcome to attend and contribute. We usually meet on the penultimate Thursday of each month after the 9.30am Mass; if you want to join us, please check beforehand the actual date with one of the Group as we have to vary meeting times occasionally. We then plan the music for all services during the following month.
Music is chosen considering the theme of each service, the associated Scripture readings, and any special commemoration on that day. To assist us in this task we use a Liturgy Planner published by Decani Music, the Catholic company that publishes the Laudate hymn book we use.

Other types of music
We hope that the music ministry at Our Lady's is inclusive, flexible, creative, varied, and meaningful for the whole congregation. We welcome suggestions for new music and musical styles.

Our Parish on Songs of Praise
In July 2018 the BBC's Songs of Praise programme recorded the parish singing a dozen hymns, which have featured in several broadcasts since then. Below you can find one example, and others on our parish YouTube channel.
